Course Overview

This course introduces students to basic human anatomy and physiology in the context of health and wellbeing for support and care – preparing healthcare workers (support workers, caregivers, healthcare assistants, etc.) to perform their duties more effectively with better understanding of their tasks.  Students will gain an understanding of the function of human anatomy and physiology within a framework of health and wellness in Aotearoa New Zealand.  This course will help prepare you to enter the health and wellbeing industry; medical programmes; pharmaceutical companies; clinics or further specialisation studies in healthcare.

  • Analyse the organisational, structural and functional components of the human body in the context of health and wellbeing for support and care.
  • Describe the structure and function of the human body systems, their interrelationships and importance for healthcare support.
  • Explain homeostatic processes, their significance in the human body and relevance to support in a healthcare environment.

Entry Requirements

  • Be 16 years of age or older and undergo a compulsory criminal record/Police check 
  • Recommended to have completed NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2).
  • Recommended minimum of Step 4 Literacy and Step 5 Numeracy on the Adult Learning Progressions or equivalent 
  • An interview and a short statement of intent on why the learner wishes to pursue a Healthcare qualification
  • This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor
  • Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5. This is subject to NZQA Rule 18, details of which can be found at: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/about-us/our-role/legislation/nzqa-rules/nzqf-related-rules/the - table/ International (onshore) students require a valid visa and insurance to study on the programme
  • There are no compulsory academic entry requirements.
  • All learners must have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
  • International (onshore) students require a valid visa and insurance to study on the programme and must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5, or equivalent, as required by NZQA Rule 22.
  • There are no mandatory prerequisites for entry to this qualification.
